Best Of 2010

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in.  A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.

So lets leave all the old bad memories back and cherish on the happy moments to come.

Wishing All A great Holiday,

Sheera

I wanted to post something special during my 100th post but couldn’t

do it somehow…. As its my 125th post I thought of posting something sweet….  Though it’s a celebration post I am not in a mood of chatting… And I myself don’t know the reason.
Ne ways let’s move on to the celebration post.  Its SHEERA…
Sheera is one of our family favorite, but to add to it… my Dad like the sheera made by Thick sooji/Rawa and the rest of us love it with the fine semolina/rawa…. So here is the difference among us :D
This was not made today… instead it was made last week during ganesh chaturthi time. And I thought It wud fit in the best for today…. JJ J
As my bro had come down to my place I thought the fine rawa Sheera wud be the best thing to make as we all love it and more of all dad wasn’t here  :P.

Photobucket

Fine Semolina/ Rawa/Sooji- 1 cup
Sugar – 1 cup
Water -2 cups
Few Strands of Saffron
Ghee – 3-4 tbsp (be generous in adding it as it will taste super especially if it’s the homemade ghee)
Elaichi/Cardamom powder – 1tsp
Cashew nuts broken few
Hot Milk - 1tbsp
Almonds to garnish
Method:
Soak saffron strands in hot milk.
Heat ghee in a deep bottom pan and fry broken cashews…. When done fry the rawa until golden brown (by frying it the rawa doesn’t form lumps).
Now add water and boil until the rawa is cooked and water almost evaporated.
Now add sugar, soaked kesar and mix vigorously so that no lumps are formed.
Cook for 5 more minutes, add cardamom powder and remove from flame.

Garnish with roasted Almonds.
Eat it just like that or with Hot Puris or with ne thing of ur choice. J

Monsoon Magic Recipe #3 – Pear Kheer- A reason to celebrate

Hello Folks!!!
How are all ya doing??? M sure most of them are enjoying the rains…. And  some like me even complaint about the rains (that doesn’t mean I don’t like rains I love them but not here ..in this place its worst).
Yesterday my Lil Angel M completed 6 months and this was a good occasion to prepare a sweet. I did not want to prepare regular kheer so I added a Monsoon Fruit into it and gave a new twist  to the kheer.

So here is the recipe
Pear – 1 (remove the skin and seed and chop them)
Sugar – ½ cup adjust according to taste
Rawa – ½ cup
Milk -1 n ½ cup
Cardamom powder
Almonds and cashews – roasted
Ghee – 1 tbsp
Saffron strands few
Method:
Heat a tsp milk and dissolve saffron strands in it and keep aside.
First microwave the pear with 1 tbsp sugar for 3 minutes (If u do not have a microwave then sauté the pear in same way for 5 minutes and keep aside.
Now in a deep bottom pan add 1 tbsp ghee and roast the rawa until light golden color(by doing this rawa does not stick to each other) this takes hardly 2-3 minutes.
Now add milk 1 cup milk and cook the rawa for 5-10 minutes. When the rawa is cooking add the remaining milk along with saffron mixture and sugar and stir well.
Boil for 5-10 minutes well in low flame and keep stirring as the kheer has chances of sticking in the bottom of the pan.
Now add the pear pieces and boil for 5 more minutes and switch the flame off.
Now add cardamom powder, almonds, and cashew nuts. Serve hot or cold according to ur choice.
Isnt it Easy and new???
With this recipe Its time to end todays post

Malai Laddoo…. I made this long time bac and it’s the right time to post it today.
I had lots of malai in my fridge and this is wht it turned into… Malai Laddoos

Photobucket

To make malai/khoya
300 ml Thickened Cream
1 can Condensed Milk

1. Put all the ingredients in a microwave proof container
2. Heat it on high for 4 minutes
3. Take the container out and stir it.
4. Heat it on high again for 4 minutes.
5. Stir it again.
If you are not using the Microwave then just heat the mixture in a thick bottomed pan on the stove for 5-6 minutes ( or more , until the consistency starts to thicken ), making sure that the mixture does not stick to the bottom.

Now to Make the Laddoos :
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of Khoya
  • Powdered Sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups of powdered and roasted sesame seeds or til
  • Kesar
  • Chopped almonds and Pistas

Instructions
Roast the khoya on slow flame till it becomes golden yellow in color. Then let it cool for some minutes. Now add some coarsely powdered sesame seeds to the khoya and mix it well. Add the sugar when the above mixture becomes Lukewarm. Add chapped pistas and Almonds. Mix it well and give it a shape of small balls. Take care that the mixture should not be too hot otherwise the sugar will melt and perfect balls would not be made. Finally decorate it with kesar
Enjoy the Delicious Malai Laddoos.

~Happy New Year 2010~

New year is everyone’s Day…. Wishing U all A very Happy Nd A Prosperous New Year…..Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you've always wanted to do but couldn't find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Walk tall, and smile more. You'll look ten years younger. Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you'. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world.
Do U Guys Make New Yr Resolutins…. I do-don’t :D…. It all depends on my mood….. :D. I Trust in doing things as we like and about resolutions it need not be done on new yr it can be done ne day of ur life Unless nd Until Kept up….........

I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you? Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover :D. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second :P.
